A lot of customers ask about the difference between the standard hard drive found in the MacBook and MacBook Pro, vs. the Solid State Drives (SSD's) in the MacBook Air. Here’s an overview of the differences – as always, feel free to contact us to learn more.
Solid State Drive (SSD)
- No moving parts
- Faster, quieter, and more energy-efficient than a traditional hard drive
- Uses silicon chips – like a USB thumb drive – to store data
- Becoming more popular in laptops
- Not affected by magnetic items, or by being dropped (to an extent, of course)
- Used in MacBook Air
Traditional Hard Drive
- Typically last longer than SSD
- Less expensive than SSD’s
- Used in MacBook and MacBook Pro
To learn more about which hard drive – and which Mac – is right for you, just stop by either store (in Eastern Hills Mall across from the Food Court, and in West Seneca), give us a call at 716-823-3085 or email This e-mail address is being protected from spambots.
