Solid State Drive (SSD) 

• No moving parts
• Faster, quieter, and more energy-efficient than a traditional hard drive
• Uses silicon chips – like a USB thumb drive – to store data
• Becoming more popular in laptops
• Not affected by magnetic items, or by being dropped (to an extent, of course)
• Used in MacBook Air

Traditional Hard Drive 

• Typically last longer than SSD
• Less expensive than SSD’s
• Used in MacBook and MacBook Pro
