Changing Your Lock Screen Wallpaper

To personalize your lock screen wallpaper on a Mac, follow these steps:

  1. Click on the Apple menu in the top left corner of your screen.
  2. Select System Preferences from the dropdown menu.
  3. Choose Desktop & Screen Saver.
  4. In the Desktop tab, you will see options for Apple’s default wallpapers or the option to select your own image.
  5. To use your own image, click on + (plus) button at the bottom left, navigate to the folder containing your desired image, and select it.
  6. Once selected, click the image, and it will be set as your desktop wallpaper. The lock screen will automatically adopt this wallpaper.

For a more dynamic look, consider using the Dynamic Desktop feature, which changes the wallpaper based on the time of day.

Setting a Password and Enabling Lock Screen Features

Enhancing your lock screen also involves setting up a password and modifying its features:

  • Go to System Preferences again and select Security & Privacy.
  • Under the General tab, check the box for Require password after sleep or screensaver begins; you can choose the timing (immediately, 5 seconds, etc.).
  • To add another layer of personalization, click on the Lock Screen option in the sidebar to manage what appears on your lock screen, including notifications and Accessibility settings.

Additionally, you can enable Hot Corners to quickly lock your screen by moving your cursor to a designated corner of your screen. This can be set in System Preferences under Desktop & Screen Saver by clicking the Hot Corners button.
