Use Universal Control to Work Across iPad and Mac

- Enable Bluetooth and Wi-Fi: Both devices need Bluetooth and Wi-Fi turned on for Universal Control to work. On your Mac, go to System Preferences > Bluetooth and System Preferences > Network to ensure both are enabled. On your iPad, swipe down from the top-right corner to access the Control Center and check the Bluetooth and Wi-Fi icons.
- Sign in with the Same Apple ID: Ensure both devices are signed in to the same Apple ID. On your Mac, go to System Preferences > Apple ID and on your iPad, go to Settings > [your name].
- Enable Universal Control: On your Mac, go to System Preferences > Displays, then click on the Universal Control button at the bottom. Check the boxes for “Allow your cursor and keyboard to move between any nearby Mac or iPad” and “Push through the edge of a display to connect to a nearby device”.
- Arrange Your Displays: Once Universal Control is enabled, you can arrange your displays in the Displays preferences. Drag the iPad icon to the position that reflects its physical location relative to your Mac. This allows for seamless cursor movement between devices.
Using Universal Control
After setting up Universal Control, you can start using it to enhance your workflow.
- Move Your Cursor: Simply move your Mac’s cursor to the edge of the screen in the direction of your iPad. The cursor will appear on your iPad, allowing you to control it with your Mac’s keyboard and mouse.
- Drag and Drop Files: You can drag files from your Mac and drop them onto your iPad. To do this, click and hold a file on your Mac, move the cursor to your iPad, and release the file on the desired app or location.
- Copy and Paste: Copy text or images from your Mac and paste them directly into your iPad apps. Use Command + C to copy on your Mac, switch to your iPad, and use Command + V to paste.
